In addition to the right business mentality, an important foundation for acting circularly is the use of data. Good data can help close material loops by providing accurate information about the availability, location and condition of products. Digitization can also enable more efficient processes in companies, contribute to waste reduction, promote longer product life, and minimize transaction costs (cf. Antikainen et al., 2018 ).

In our workshop session, we highlighted the role data could play in the transition to Circular Value Creation, what data is important, and the different examples of digital Circular Value Creation. We thank the organizers and participants for the great session!

• Be open: Be open and curious about Circular Economy and digitalization, no matter if you are a producer, retailer or (IT) service provider.
• Be informed: Be inspired by exciting projects, novel business models as well as political and social trends of the Circular Economy and digitalization.
• Be ready: Gain advantages through synergies by making yourself “digital ready” and “circular ready” at the same time. This means you are ready for the requirements of the EU Green Deal, the associated Circular Economy Action Plan and an increasingly digitalized economy.
